The BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, PHSA cordially invite you to submit an abstract for consideration at the Provincial Perinatal Substance Use Conference 2024: Connecting the Dots through Innovative Care Approaches Across the Perinatal Substance Use Continuum. We are currently accepting abstracts covering the following sub-themes:

  • Peers’ perspectives and peer-led substance use initiative
  • Indigenous approaches to delivering care
  • Harm reduction and recovery-oriented approaches
  • Research, education, policy, and system-level changes (e.g. decriminalization, safer supply, child welfare)
  • Other

Presentation Types

Presentation as Part of a Panel
Panel presentations are concise 15-20-minute presentations given by 1-2 lead authors on the team. Submissions will be grouped into a larger panel based on similarity of topic. Each panel will include approximately 3 presentations, followed by a 15-20 minute Q&A to the panel.

Workshop
A workshop is a session lasting 45, 60, or 90 minutes designed to equip attendees with new skills and knowledge. Presenters are encouraged to use an interactive, experiential, or hands-on approach, which could include demonstrations, skill-building exercises, group discussions, interactive polls, and/or case examples. The workshop’s outline should be described in the abstract.

Abstract submission deadline: Friday, June 21, 2024
Abstract acceptance notifications: Wednesday, July 17, 2024 week of July 22, 2024
Registration/Confirmation deadline for presenting authors: Friday, September 20, 2024

Preferred Submission Format

Please note that your abstract must follow the structured layout below using the following headings. Each heading has a word limit and the total word limit for the abstract is 500.
Learning Objectives (150 words)
Brief Description (250 words)
Description of how the abstract fits with the conference theme (100 words)

Registration

If your abstract is accepted for presentation at this year’s PPSUP Conference, you will receive complimentary registration. Instructions on how to register will follow your acceptance notification email.

Submission Guidelines

  • All abstracts must be submitted via the Online Portal no later than the abstract submission deadline.
  • The word limit for abstracts is 500. 
  • There is no limit to how many abstracts can be submitted per presenter.
  • There is a limit of two presenting authors per abstract, except for workshops. 
  • Abstracts received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission.
  • Presenting authors of accepted presentations must register by September 20, 2024. 
  • Presenters are required to provide a biography upon submission. A headshot will be requested upon acceptance of the abstract. 
  • The conference is offered in-person only for both speakers and the audience. There is no option to participate virtually. By submitting an abstract, you acknowledge that you will present your work in-person at the Executive Hotel Vancouver Airport in Richmond, BC.
